Some things only the Jubilee can fix. But everything will be fixed that day. Come, Lord Jesus! Just when the Jewish calendar looks like it’s all arranged, the Lord adds another special day. “You shall count seven sabbaths of years for yourself, seven times seven years” (Lev 25:8). Remember, every seventh year was already a […]
We’re no longer under the law to keep the Sabbath, but we still need regular rest to be recharged. Before leaving Leviticus 24, notice what is called Lex Talionis, the law of retaliation, where a punishment resembles an offense in kind and degree. We know it as “an eye for an eye” (see v 20). […]
“Out of the same mouth proceed blessing and cursing.…these things ought not to be so” (Jas 3:10). When we first look at Leviticus 24, it appears to be a bunch of leftovers. Suddenly the Lord reminds the people to donate “pure oil of pressed olives for the light” (v 2), and to make sure the […]

The long, sweltering days of Israel’s alienation from her God will soon give place to her rebirth! The next event on God’s calendar is inviting His Son to bring His Bride home. Often called the Rapture (based on the Latin word for the Greek harpazo, “caught up,” 1 Thess 4:17), it will also herald the […]

How much we owe God’s Spirit! Our life, gifts, unity, peace, guidance, instruction, comfort… Through the prophet Joel, God promised His people that some day, “I will pour out My Spirit on all flesh” (Joel 2:28). And on the day of Pentecost in Acts 2, that’s exactly what happened! In fact, as Peter preached to […]
