By Himself Several key features of the Day of Atonement can be summarized as follows. 1. The title the Day of Atonement occurs only in Leviticus 23:27-28, as part of a section which stresses the responsibilities of the people in general. In the flow of time, when parents become grandparents—as has just happened to us—and they are confronted anew with the awe-inspiring miracle that is new life, some pause to give thanks to God that the intricate choreography of human development and birth happens safely and automatically because of the careful and reasoned design of a […]
It’s Closing Time The phrase the Day of the Lord is used in two different, yet connected, ways in Scripture. It is used in a broad way to speak of the whole Tribulation and the Millennial Kingdom. The broad use puts the day of the Lord between the day of Christ, which begins at the […]
Our 21st century world needs to see what Spirit-filled believers actually look like. The Pharaohs of the Exodus In the last issue of Uplook, we took a look at the Pharaohs of Genesis. In this issue, we’ll start to turn our attention to the Pharaohs of Exodus. There is probably no Old Testament account about which more has been written, or more movies have been made, than the […]
Coming with heaven’s clouds God’s title Ancient of Days is used only three times in the Bible, each of them being connected to the night visions of Daniel 7 (vv. 9, 13, 22). This special title is composed of two time-related words: the first suggests eons of duration, while the second speaks of smaller, individual […]
