“Come apart” or come apart. As in the days when He tabernacled among men, so today the Lord, though the center of the heavenly host and the theme of their song, longs for the companionship of His saints. He wants their hearts. It is a wonderful thought! His voice calls today—to the saint no less […]
“Arise, go up to Bethel, and dwell there.” Who can estimate fully God’s ways? Prosperity in earthly things, or even in the result of service for Christ, does not always go hand in hand with the soul’s advancement. Who does not know that Padan-aram, Succoth, and Shechem too often detain the steps of Peniel’s faltering, […]
A true life story. Fictitious names assigned for obvious reasons. Ernie was an officer in the U. S. Army, stationed at a large base in the U. S. Elise was content to forego an outside career; she felt that her calling was to stay at home and raise their two children. Apart from the usual […]
Only heaven will reveal how much we owe them. All thinking men realize they depend on the ministry of women from cradle to grave. Don’t leave widows out of your social plans. Often when a husband dies, his wife is no longer invited out to dinner since it’s “a couple thing.” Then invite a couple of widows! It seems that the headlong rush of the twenty-first century especially lends itself to increasing complication. But the apostle Paul obviously saw the problem coming in the first century: “I fear, […]
In these days of growing uncertainty, there is a bright and certain hope! Do you think we’ll ever get caught up?” We were standing in the press room as brother Tim asked the question. The heady aroma of printer’s ink, coated stock, and cleaning fluid filled the place. The measured rhythm of the presses, punctuated […]
What is all the fuss about Jerusalem anyway? Is there a solution for this tortured city? I’m staying with friends in a very Jewish neighborhood in South Florida. A tabloid, the Jewish Journal, was dropped at the door and I took the liberty of glancing at it. Along with ads for kosher catering, fund-raisers for […]
This veteran evangelist in the Middle East describes his first impressions. The time is 9:30 am. It is just five hours since, rubbing from my eyes the dust of the Sinai desert, I gazed from the carriage window into the gray light of dawn to see for the first time strings of camels, fat-tailed sheep, […]
