“When leaders lead in Israel, when the people willingly offer themselves, bless the Lord!” (Jdg 5:2). After the sweeping heaven-given victory against the far superior forces of Sisera, Deborah and Barak sang a duet, beginning with this line. Without being political, let me say, this is what we need in the world today: leaders who […]
“What shall a man give in exchange for his soul?” (Mt 16:26). While this is almost always applied to the lost, it was spoken by the Lord to His own. To turn it around, since your soul has been rescued by God’s Champion, what will you give Him in gratitude for such heavenly heroism? Here’s […]
It must be so frustrating to try to build a righteous life out of shadows, as this young Jew discovered! That’s the issue for sincere Jewish people. The lambs offered couldn’t take away sin; the priests themselves were sinners. The Sanctuary was closed to them. But when Jesus came, He changed everything. The New Testament […]
You can see, in this dual role given to the Son, that the Father knows Christ is the solution to everything. We’ve considered the first dramatic statement about Christ in Psalm 110. “The Lord said to my Lord, ‘Sit at My right hand, till I make Your enemies Your footstool’” (Ps 110:1). This is quoted often in the […]
JESUS the MEEK ONE: “Learn from Me, for I am meek…” (Mt 11:29). Meekness is not weakness, but strength in control. How do we learn meekness? We first must be ready to “receive with meekness the engrafted word” (Jas 1:21), submitting our lives to its truth. We can bear “the fruit of the Spirit” which […]
“Keep back Your servant also from presumptuous sins; let them not have dominion over me” (Ps 19:13). Presumptuous sins! These are sins committed not through weakness or the enemy’s stealth, but from our own deliberate action. They are sins that we engage in against our own best judgment and in spite of the light of […]
Leonard Sheldrake reminds us that “No work is more noble or fraught with more blessed possibilities than sowing the seeds of the gospel.” What to sow? “The sower sows the word” (Mk 4:14). When should we sow? “In the morning sow your seed, and in the evening do not withhold your hand; for you do […]
The Father wants us to know that the Lord Jesus has no rivals. He sits supreme over all! Psalm 110 is just seven verses long, but it’s the most often quoted psalm in the New Testament. There are two glorious truths about the Lord Jesus that His Father never tires of telling us. We’ll think […]
CHRIST the GRAIN of WHEAT: “Unless a grain of wheat falls into the ground and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it produces much grain” (Jn 12:24). Who can tell how one faithful witness can bring in a bumper crop? And who ever heard of John Warr? He had been apprenticed to Clarke […]
