CHRIST the KING ETERNAL: “But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah,…out of you shall come forth to Me the One to be Ruler in Israel, whose goings forth are from of old, from everlasting” (Mic 5:2). We were creatures of time, corruptible and doomed to utter collapse. But into our dusty world the Savior came. And, according to […]
“Behold, He is coming with clouds, and every eye will see Him…Even so, Amen” (Rev 1:7). I recall attending a camp in my childhood where they had a weather rock hanging from a chain. The explanation was this: if the rock is dry, weather fair; if it’s wet, precipitation; if the rock is moving, it’s […]
To some the mental image of God is a blur of disappointment. “Here,” they say resentfully, “is One whom I trusted, but He let me down.” The rest of their lives is shadowed by this letdown…God is a Disappointment. Some, of course, rather enjoy this never-failing well of grievance. The years by no means diminish […]
“Forever, O Lord, Your word is settled in heaven. Your faithfulness endures to all generations” (Ps 119:89-90). There it is, lying on the table. At first, it may seem like an ordinary volume. But when you peek inside, you are looking right into the heart and mind of God! There’s nothing else like it. So what […]
CHRIST the ONE who can MAKE OLD THINGS NEW: “Behold, I make all things new” (Rev 21:5). If only we could go back in time, we might make old things new. But Christ instead takes us up into the realm of the eternal. He gives us a new birth (Jn 3:3) which is life from […]
“Lord, give us this bread always” (Jn 6:34). Early Christians were accused of cannibalism. The Lord said, “He who eats My flesh and drinks My blood abides in Me, and I in him” (v 56). Immediately He was misunderstood, and continues to be! It reminds me of the Yanomami, an indigenous tribe living in the […]
Ray Comfort tells about a poster promoting atheism. It features pictures of Darwin, Jefferson and Lincoln, Ben Franklin, Einstein, Carl Sagan and Ernest Hemingway. “Atheism:” it says, “good enough for these idiots.” But is that true? Franklin wrote: “It is that particular wise and good God…that I propose for the object of my praise and […]
“When I am in the cellar of affliction, I look for the Lord’s choicest wines.” —Samuel Rutherford In hard times I may think, “Nobody knows the trouble I’ve seen,” but here’s the fact: “No temptation has seized you except what is common to man” (1 Cor 10:13, BSB). You’ve never been tackled by a problem that someone […]
CHRIST the ETERNAL LIFE: “The Life was manifested, and we have seen, and bear witness, and declare to you that Eternal Life which was with the Father and was manifested to us” (1 Jn 1:2). We have no life independent of Christ—He is our life (Col 3:4)! He is the WORD of Life (Jn 1:1) […]
