“The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make His face shine upon you, and be gracious to you; the Lord lift up His countenance upon you, and give you peace” (Num 6:24-26). The Dead Sea Scrolls, discovered in 1947, were at that point the oldest extant manuscripts of Scripture. But the most ancient […]
Mark Cahill writes: “If it doesn’t matter on the day you die, it doesn’t matter. Will it matter on the day you die if you made a million dollars or owned two houses…? No. Will it matter on the day you die if you knew the Bible better than you knew today’s newspaper? Yes. Will […]
“Strength for today and bright hope for tomorrow: Blessings all mine, with ten thousand beside!” —T.O. Chisolm We began a study of the singer’s Show & Tell in our previous look at Psalm 66. Remember the beginning and concluding invitations: “Come and see the works of God” (v 5) and then “Come and hear, all you who fear God” (v […]
CHRIST the WORKER: “I must work the works of Him who sent Me while it is day; the night is coming when no one can work” (Jn 9:4). Our Lord, while on earth, was a tireless worker. He worked 12-hour days at a minimum (see Jn 11:9). From His youth, He declared, “I must be […]

There are 31 “songs” in the Psalter. “Psalm” emphasizes the accompaniment, and “song” stresses the singing of the words. But obviously—as with this one—both […]
CHRIST the BELIEVER’S GAIN: “I also count all things loss for the excellence of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord, for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and count them as rubbish, that I may gain Christ” (Php 3:8). In October of 1810, twenty-year-old Ann Hasseltine wrote the following in her […]
