“Let my supplication come before You; deliver me according to Your word” (Ps 119:170).
Does the Lord hear me? This is the only place in the psalm where David almost repeats himself. The previous verse, which we already considered, says: “Let my cry come before You, O Lord; give me understanding according to Your word” (v 169). There are two slight differences.
First, he uses the word “supplication” (a gracious entreaty) instead of “cry” (a creaking, or shrill sound). Sometimes we do have a carefully thought-out petition; sometimes it is just a groan or wail. Both “come before” Him; He understands both languages. Of Him it is said, “who, in the days of His flesh, when He had offered up prayers and supplications, with vehement cries and tears…and was heard…” (Heb 5:7). The other change is the difference between understanding our situation and getting out of it! Both are very helpful, wouldn’t you say? Yes, He does hear you, beloved, and always delivers in His perfect time.
