CHRIST in the NOW: “But the hour is coming, and now is…” (Jn 4:23). So was the hour coming, or had it arrived? The answer is, both. Time is a process, constantly changing. But time meets us in the moment, and all we really have is NOW. We should not live for the present, but should live in it—not carrying guilt from the past or fears for the future. But see what the Lord has brought into our now: we are “NOW justified by His blood” (Rom 5:9). Saved many years, perhaps, but now we can rejoice in it! And though it doesn’t yet appear what we shall be, we “NOW are the sons of God” (1 Jn 3:2). “NOW having been set free from sin” (Rom 6:22), we also “NOW…have been delivered from the law” (7:6). Having accepted His finished work, we can also say, “There is therefore NOW no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus” (8:1). Let us claim today: “The life which I NOW live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me” (Gal 2:20).
