WHAT the SON was “MADE” (ginomai) or BECAME in His INCARNATION (Part 1): In the next three devotionals, it should be noted that when Scripture says the Lord was “made” something, it was never against His will—in fact, always with His cooperation. “And the Word was made flesh and dwelt among us (and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth” (Jn 1:14; see Php 2:7). He must not only appear as a Man (as He had done in OT times), but “When the fullness of the time had come, God sent forth His Son, made of a woman, made under the law” (Gal 4:4). And already the best at everything, nonetheless He “made Himself of no reputation, and took upon Him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men” (Php 2:7). And in order to be the promised Messiah, He also “was made (born) of the seed of David according to the flesh” (Rom 1:3). Becoming what He never was, yet He did not cease to be what He always was!
