CHRIST the STABILIZER: “Therefore, my beloved and longed-for brethren, my joy and crown, so stand fast in the Lord, beloved” (Php 4:1). It’s a wobbly world out there and the foundations of society are being purposefully undermined by those who have set themselves against the Lord. The storm warnings are out and the last great storm will soon be rolling in. These are not days for believers to be lax or careless. We should be like the men of Issachar, “who had understanding of the times” (1 Chron 12:32), and know how we ought to comport ourselves in a crumbling civilization. The apostle Paul has some practical exhortations for us. “Watch, stand fast in the faith, be brave, be strong” (1 Cor 16:13). “Stand fast therefore in the liberty by which Christ has made us free, and do not be entangled again with a yoke of bondage” (Gal 5:1). “Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand” (Eph 6:13).
