CHRIST’S PRECIOUS BLOOD: “This is My blood of the new covenant…” (Mt 26:28). C.H. Spurgeon writes: “A gentleman has purchased a very expensive sword, with a golden hilt and an elaborate scabbard: he hangs it up in his hall, and exhibits it to all his friends…The precious blood of Jesus is not meant for us merely to admire and exhibit…we are to use it in the great crusade against unholiness and unrighteousness, until it is said of us, ‘They overcame him by the blood of the Lamb’.” But how? First, of course, we are blood-bought. Ephesians 1:7 says that “we have redemption through His blood.” This now gives us access to God directly: we have “boldness to enter the Holiest by the blood of Jesus” (Heb 10:19). As well, “how much more shall the blood of Christ…cleanse your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?” (Heb 9:14). And you have been “redeemed…from your aimless conduct (purposeless living)…with the precious blood of Christ” (1 Pet 1:18-19).
