CHRIST the SIN-OFFERING: “…You make His soul an offering for sin” (Isa 53:10). Years ago, I was leading a tour to Israel and we had arranged to spend a day working with some archeologists excavating a Roman villa at Gilo. After we were done, I asked if we could sing a psalm to them. Graciously, they agreed. We sang Psalm 23 to the Scottish tune Crimmond, and, when we finished, I thought I heard one of the women, washing pottery under an olive tree, say, “Amen!” I approached her and asked, “Did I just hear you say, ‘Amen’?” “Yes,” she replied. “May I ask you, Who is Yeshua to you?” With a broad smile I have not forgotten, she said, “He is my Savior.” Raised in a secular Jewish home, she had visited her aunt in Hawaii after graduating college. “Am I glad to see you,” said her aunt. “Some Christians are trying to convince me that Isaiah 53 is about Jesus.” But Hannah had never read Isaiah 53! As they studied it together, both she and her aunt found the sinner’s Savior.
