June 15, 2026 — The Giver God

“This is true faith—a living confidence in the goodness of God.” —Martin Luther

The soul is overwhelmed with the endless provisions that flow from the heart of Elohim. Likewise, we are amazed at David’s ability to describe these treasures lavished on us. It is right when “Praise is awaiting You, O God, in Zion” (Ps 65:1). Sadly, it may often be that He must await our praise. But why is He so deserving of this praise—and the practical service of each authentic worshiper, according to David? 1. Because He is the One who will “hear prayer” and answer it (v 2). 2. He also “will provide atonement” for those assailed by “iniquities” (v 3). 3. He amazingly gives access to His “courts” as well, and 4. those who enter, declares the psalmist, “shall be satisfied with the goodness of Your house, of Your holy temple” (v 4). But God is not idol-like, immobile and uncaring. 5. “By awesome deeds in righteousness You will answer us, O God of our salvation” (v 5). 6. Thus God’s establishing strength gives sure confidence to His whole far-flung empire (v 6). 7. The Lord is also the Peacemaker, stilling both “the noise of the seas…and the tumult of the peoples” (v 7). And it’s so wonderful to know 8. that He’s there to rejoice our hearts around the clock. “You make the outgoings of the morning and evening rejoice” (v 8). But there’s more! 9. “You visit the earth and water it, You greatly enrich it; the river of God is full of water; You provide their grain, for so You have prepared it. You water its ridges abundantly, You settle its furrows; You make it soft with showers, You bless its growth” (vv 9-10). Any idea how much water that is? Every minute of the day, 1 billion tons of rain fall around the Earth—264 billion gallons of water! And, of course, 10. history is His story: “You crown the year with Your goodness” (v 11). So “shout for joy…also sing” (v 13).
