CHRIST the GLORY BEARER: “And the key of the house of David will I lay upon his shoulder; so he shall open, and none shall shut; and he shall shut, and none shall open. And I will fasten him as a nail in a sure place…And they shall hang upon him all the glory of his father’s house” (Isa 22:22-24). Sostratus of Cnidus was a Greek architect and engineer, said to have designed the lighthouse on the island of Pharos off the coast of Alexandria in northern Egypt, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. When the tower was nearly finished, he had his own name engraved on the stone wall near the base, then had it covered with plaster. Into the plaster was carved in golden letters the name of the Pharaoh. “The cunning architect knew very well,” writes H.P. Barker, “as the years rolled by, that the waves would wash away the plaster, and that his own name would stand out before the eyes of men.” Be careful you give the Lord all the glory; God will see to it, and then we will rejoice together on the Day it happens.
