CHRIST the OUTPOURING: “He poured out His soul unto death” (Isa 53:12). When Christ “emptied Himself” (kenoo, Php 2:7), who received the outflow of this fullness? We know the answer: “of His fullness we have all received, and grace upon grace” (Jn 1:16). If we can truly hear what Paul tells the Ephesians, we should never complain again. In chapter 3, he writes: “to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge; that you may be filled with all the fullness of God” (v 19). In chapter 4, he speaks of the glorious day when “we all come to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a perfect man, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ” (v 13). And in chapter 5, he encourages us to “be filled with the Spirit, speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord, giving thanks always for all things to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ” (vv 18-20). The fullness of God, of Christ, and of the Spirit!
