CHRIST the FOCUS of our FAITH: “I know WHOM I have believed” (2 Tim 1:12). Christ is not only the object of our faith; He is the sunshine and cultivator of it. He said to Peter, “I have prayed for you, that your faith should not fail” (Lk 22:32). “And the apostles said to the Lord, ‘Increase our faith’” (17:5). What can such faith, anchored in the Lord, do? Well, it is used in the process of sanctification: “purifying [our] hearts by faith” (Acts 15:9). It provides the spiritual vision for good works, with “faith working through love” (Gal 5:6). It is the key to our spiritual understanding, because “by faith we understand…” (Heb 11:3). But the author continues by recounting many who “obtained a good testimony through faith” (v 39). The list is remarkable: “who through faith subdued kingdoms, worked righteousness, obtained promises, stopped the mouths of lions…” (vv 33-34). The list is also long. But I wonder: What does God want to add to the list through your faith in Him?
