JESUS the OFFERING for SIN: “When You make His soul an offering for sin…” (Isa 53:10). Who can fathom what it would mean for any man to bear the sin of another on his soul? But then think of all the sin of souls upon souls, nations upon nations, generations upon generations, wave upon wave of sin crashing against His holy soul. And this, not against a man who had become innoculated to the full effects of sin, but someone who was “holy, harmless, undefiled, separate from sinners” (Heb 7:26). We read about this Man that He “did no sin, nor was deceit found in His mouth” (1 Pet 2:22). And more, that He “knew no sin” (2 Cor 5:21), for not even the shadow of a thought of sin ever crossed His spotless mind. In fact, John adds, “in Him there is no sin” (1 Jn 3:5). God Himself watched over this Babe at Bethlehem, the Youth at Nazareth, the Young Man as He made His way to His baptism, and there said, “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased” (Mt 3:17).
