CHRIST the GREAT DIVIDE: The word “shed” meaning “poured out” is rarely used today. One exception is the term “watershed,” referring to the line separating drainage basins. The most famous is the Great Divide, determining the rainfall that flows to the Atlantic or Pacific Oceans. But the term “watershed” has been borrowed to refer to “a turning point.” Here are three Watershed Moments. There was Christ’s death, regarding which He said, “This is My blood of the new testament…shed for many for the remission of sins” (Mt 26:28). There was the sending of the Spirit, of which Peter declared: “Therefore being by the right hand of God exalted, and having received of the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit, He has shed forth this, which you now see and hear” (Acts 2:33). And now “the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who is given to us” (Rom 5:5). The blood of Christ, the Holy Spirit, the love of God—poured out for us, on us, through us, without measure!
