JESUS the FAMILY MAN: “I and the children whom God has given Me” (Heb 2:13). William Grimshaw (1708–1763) was ordained many years before he was saved. A “blind leader of the blind,” he was eventually brought to Christ through the death of his wife. Then, “with a slice of bread and an onion for his day’s provision, he would trudge over the moors from dawn to summer-dusk in search of sheep in the wilderness, and after a night’s rest in a hayloft would resume the work. In one of his weekly circuits he would think it no hardship to preach from twenty to thirty times.” But when he died, his own son was unsaved. John only survived his father by three years, but during that time was saved in a remarkable way. He was accustomed to ride his father’s horse, once used for gospel work. Many remarked on this and he would say, “Yes, it once carried a great saint; now it carries a great sinner.” The Spirit of God used his own words to bring conviction and salvation!
