JESUS the ULTIMATE HOME BUILDER: “I go to prepare a place for you” (Jn 14:2). Oliver Fisher Winchester founded the Winchester Repeating Arms Company in 1866. He made a fortune manufacturing and selling rifles. After he died of influenza in 1918, his wife Sarah moved to San Jose, California. Believing in spiritism, she sought out a medium who told her, “As long as you keep building your home, you will never face death.” Sarah believed the spiritist, bought an unfinished 17-room mansion and started to expand it. The mansion eventually had 150 rooms, 2,000 doors, 47 fireplaces, and 10,000 windows. When she died at age 85, Mrs. Winchester left enough materials so they could have continued building for another 80 years. But Sarah was nowhere to be found! What do we know? “We know that if our earthly house, this tent, is destroyed, we have a building from God, a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens” (2 Cor 5:1).
