CHRIST the COMFORTER: “May our Lord Jesus Christ Himself…comfort your hearts”(2 Thess 2:16-17). Bob Greene (Chicago Tribune, Aug 1987), tells the following. Douglas Maurer, age 15, of Creve Coeur, MO, was diagnosed with leukemia. The doctors told him that he would have to undergo chemotherapy, that he would go bald and his body would most likely bloat. On learning this, he went into a deep depression. His aunt called to send Doug a flower arrangement. She told the clerk that it was for her teenage nephew who had leukemia. When the flowers arrived, they were beautiful. Doug read the card from his aunt. Then he saw a second card. It said: “Douglas, I took your order. I had leukemia when I was 7 years old. I’m 22 years old now. My heart goes out to you. Sincerely, Laura Bradley.” Interesting how a flower shop clerk, taking the time to care, gave him hope when a hospital staffed with experts in the field did not. Jesus knows and cares for you!
