CHRIST IS CALLING: “The Master has come and is calling for you” (Jn 11:28). Peter deeply appreciated the Lord’s calling on his life and made it a theme of his letters. He tells us that we have every reason to “proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light” (1 Pet 2:9). And since we are to be walking in the light, it is no surprise that “as He who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct” (1:15). It won’t be easy, of course, to buck the trend. But “to this you were called, because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that you should follow His steps” (2:21). But it’s not all bleak! You know “that you were called to this, that you may inherit a blessing” (3:9). And Peter ends with this benediction: “But may the God of all grace, who called us to His eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after you have suffered a while, perfect, establish, strengthen, and settle you” (5:10-11). Called into light, to be holy, to suffer, to be blessed, and then to glory!
