CHRIST INCORRUPTIBLE: “Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible…be honor and glory forever and ever” (1 Tim 1:17). The word aphthartos, here translated “immortal,” is found 7x in the NT, and in all instances should be translated “incorruptible.” Paul records the sad history of humanity that “changed the glory of the incorruptible God into an image made like corruptible man—and birds and four-footed animals and creeping things” (Rom 1:21-23). Still He sent the incorruptible King to us, albeit in disguise, to reintroduce us to Himself. And, amazingly, He offered us “incorruptible” seed “through the word of God” (1 Pet 1:23) so we could be born again and some day be “raised incorruptible” (1 Cor 15:52) to enter into “an inheritance incorruptible and undefiled and that does not fade away” (1 Pet 1:4). In the meantime, let us be marked by “the incorruptible beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit” (3:4), “temperate in all things” that we might win “an incorruptible crown” (1 Cor 9:25).
