CHRIST OUR POSSESSION: “Be content with such things as you have” (Heb 13:5). What does this mean? To be content with a dilapidated house or an old car, slowly corroding with rust? Although being thankful for everything is an evidence of our belief that the Lord looks after His people, I don’t think that was what the author had in mind. Why? Because I read the rest of the verse! “For He Himself has said, ‘I will never leave you nor forsake you’.” What does the writer tell us we HAVE? “We have a great High Priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God” (4:14). “We have…an anchor of the soul, both sure and steadfast, and which enters the Presence behind the veil” (6:19). “You have a better and an enduring possession for yourselves in heaven” (10:34). “We have an altar from which those who serve the tabernacle have no right to eat” (13:10). A heavenly High Priest interceding; a heavenly hope, sure and steadfast; a heavenly possession, waiting for us; and heavenly food, satisfying us with Christ!
