CHRIST the AMEN: “These things says the Amen…” (Rev 3:14). “For all the promises of God in Him are Yes, and in Him Amen, to the glory of God through us” (2 Cor 1:20). Paul has just explained to the Corinthians that, in seeming exception to Christ’s own instructions, “Let your ‘Yes’ be ‘Yes,’ and your ‘No,’ ‘No,’ he had only used Yes. And why? Because the New Covenant in Christ contains no curses, only blessings! He could find no “No’s”! Francis Derk explains that “Amen” means “that which is certain, credible and true: ‘so be it.’” The Lord Jesus is God’s “that’s for sure” on all His promises. It is sure because Christ is the Truth and He cannot lie. It is sure because He fulfilled every condition of the covenant. It is sure because, through His poverty, He made available the riches on which these promises draw. And it is sure because all these promises are “in Him” and He is ours through faith. His promises are “Verily, verily” or literally, “Amen, amen”—doubly sure to you!
