December 31 Petition Mission

“He who testifies to these things says, ‘Surely I am coming quickly.’ Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus!” (Rev 22:20).

Here is the last prayer in the Bible. Paul wrote, “The time is short” (1 Cor 7:29). Knowing the times we live in, and the certainty of His return, how should we respond?

On May 19, 1780, many in the Northeast U.S. were shocked to see the sky darken; the morning suddenly became like night. This was no eclipse; later it was discovered that massive forest fires in Ontario had caused the phenomenon. Residents left work and gathered to pray, fearful the end of the world had come. When it was suggested that the Senate close in Hartford, Connecticut, Col. Abraham Davenport replied, “I am against adjournment. The day of judgment is either approaching, or it is not. If it is not, there is no cause for an adjournment; if it is, I choose to be found doing my duty. I wish therefore that candles may be brought.” Lord, until You come for us, help us to be candles shining in our darkening world.
