November 4 Petition Mission

“Be of good courage, and let us be strong for our people…. And may the Lord do what is good in His sight” (2 Sam 10:12).

Here is a rare bright spot in Joab’s life. David’s army was surrounded by Syrians to the north and Ammonites to the south. Joab enjoined his two divisions to help one another, coming to the other’s aid if they were being overwhelmed.

Doris “Dorie” Miller, a fine specimen of a man, was so named because the midwife was certain the baby would be a girl! He was the first black American awarded the Navy Cross, and one of the first American heroes of WWII. Though working in the mess, when the Japanese attacked his vessel, the West Virginia, he manned (with no training) the anti-aircraft gun of a fallen comrade and, when out of ammo, rescued many before the ship sank. As Sir Winston Churchill said, “It’s not enough that we do our best; sometimes we have to do what’s required.” Lord, give us courage today to do what is necessary in the real war!
