November 10 Petition Mission

“My eyes are awake through the night watches, that I may meditate on Your word. Hear my voice according to Your lovingkindness; O Lord, revive me according to Your justice” (Ps 119:148-149).

It’s good that our God is available 24/7 because sometimes we need to work the night shift. When we remember, as Jonathan Edwards wrote, “The true spirit of prayer is no other than God’s own Spirit dwelling in the hearts of the saints,” we know that our God is always awake—actually living inside!

“He will not allow your foot to be moved; He who keeps you will not slumber. Behold, He who keeps Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep” (Ps 121:3-4). I’d almost be ready to say, “There’s nothing like a good night’s sleep” until I read a verse like this. Although we need sleep, sometimes we need something more. We might need to meditate, with a vital lesson from His Word. Or we need some quiet intimacy to enjoy His lovingkindness. We may need personal reviving, and He often does that when we’re alone with Him.
