“And it came to pass, when Joshua was by Jericho,…behold, a Man stood opposite him with His sword drawn in His hand. And Joshua went to Him and said to Him, ‘Are You for us or for our adversaries?’ So He said, ‘No…’” (Josh 5:13-14).
Sometimes we may feel that, if not the Lord Himself, at least life’s circumstances are against us. Joshua was taking a walk near the city that stood in the way of Israel’s promised land. Suddenly “a Man” stood opposite him, sword drawn. “Who goes there? Whose side are you on?” And the Man answered, “I’m not on anybody’s side, Joshua. You’re on My side. Did you think I had asked you to be the commander? No, you’ll be fighting with Me.”
We know it was the pre-incarnate Jesus. He accepted Joshua’s worship, so He wasn’t a mere angel. And we know “no one has seen God at any time. The only begotten Son, who is in the bosom of the Father, He has declared Him” (Jn 1:18). God seen is God’s Son. Thank God, we’re on His side. And He will fight for us today.
