September 18 Petition Mission

“When leaders lead in Israel, when the people willingly offer themselves, bless the Lord!” (Jdg 5:2).

After the sweeping heaven-given victory against the far superior forces of Sisera, Deborah and Barak sang a duet, beginning with this line. Without being political, let me say, this is what we need in the world today: leaders who actually lead according to the Lord’s directives and people who willingly offer themselves to Him for His service. Nothing would turn the tide of moral decline like that would. We need leaders in the home, in the church, and in society who seek the guidance of God.

But wait! You know the story, right? What leaders did Israel have on this occasion? Deborah, ministering quietly by her home in the hill country of Ephraim. And Barak, afraid to move, needing Deborah’s encouragement to act. And the people? Many didn’t turn up. The ones who did were not trained warriors. But—“bless the Lord!”—with only a few, He can still win the day. So let’s pray!
