September 15 Petition Mission

“Deal with Your servant according to Your mercy, and teach me Your statutes” (Ps 119:124).

This verse reminds me of the woman who went to pick up some “selfies” at a photo shop. When she saw them, she said with a huff, “These don’t do me justice!” The clerk, looking over her shoulder, and unfamiliar with the present climate of political correctness, replied, “You don’t need justice, lady; you need mercy!” Don’t we all!

David knew that, and asked the Lord to base all His dealings with him on His mercy. Earlier in the psalm (v 64), he writes, “The earth, O Lord, is full of Your mercy.” That’s the perspective! Adam Clarke writes, “What an astonishing operation has the grace of God! In the midst of want, poverty, affliction, and bondage, it makes those who possess it happy! When Christ dwells in the heart by faith, we have nothing but goodness around us. Others may complain; but to us, even the earth appears full of the mercy of the Lord.” Look for His mercy today.
