August 18 Petition Mission

“I am Yours, save me; for I have sought Your precepts” (Ps 119:94).

What better plea can we offer in our times of need? “I am Yours.” When the Lord saw the goings-on at the base of Mt Sinai, He said to Moses, “Go, get down! For YOUR people whom YOU brought out of the land of Egypt have corrupted themselves” (Ex 32:7). Oh no, replied Moses, “Lord, why does Your wrath burn hot against YOUR people whom YOU have brought out of the land of Egypt with great power and with a mighty hand?” (v 11). This message was Moses’ masterpiece, pleading the character of God to God. You’re a God who keeps His promises. The fact that Your people fail in no way means that You will fail.

The same argument mounted here by David is used by the New Testament writers (Gal 4:4-7; 1 Pet 2:9). But listen to our Lord: “I pray for them…for those whom You have given Me, for they are Yours. And all Mine are Yours, and Yours are Mine, and I am glorified in them” (Jn 17:9-10). That’s security!
