July 28 Petition Mission

“How many are the days of Your servant? When will You execute judgment on those who persecute me?” (Ps 119:84).

The long wait! When it seems you’ve had your hope deferred one too many times, when those who mistreat you do it again, seemingly without repercussions, ask yourself: How long has Jesus waited? Recorded 3,500 years ago, the words have been hanging on the air for more than two millennia: “Sit at My right hand, TILL I make Your enemies Your footstool” (Ps 110:1).

“Love suffers long” all right, and our Jesus has been waiting for His Bride, for His kingdom to come, for His vindication, for His final victory over Satan, for the restoration of Israel—waiting, waiting. No wonder Paul requested this for the saints: “May the Lord direct your hearts into the love of God and into the patience of Christ” (2 Thess 3:5). The answer to the martyrs’ “How long?” is our answer too: “It was said to them that they should rest a little while longer” (Rev 6:10-11). Relax. He’ll set it all right.
