June 24 Petition Mission

“So Jesus…asked him…‘What do you want Me to do for you?’ He said, ‘Lord, that I may receive my sight’” (Lk 18:40-41). If the Lord asked you today, “What do you want Me to do for you?” what would you say? We couldn’t do better than this poor fellow.

It’s of note that the last judge (Samson) was a blind judge (Jdg 16:21); the last ruling priest (Eli) was a blind priest (1 Sam 4:15); and the last king (Zedekiah) was a blind king (Jer 39:7). Sadly, it is also true that the last church is a blind church. To them (us!) the Lord Jesus says, “You say, ‘I am rich, have become wealthy, and have need of nothing’ — and do not know that you are wretched, miserable, poor, blind, and naked.” What is His advice? “I counsel you to…anoint your eyes with eye salve, that you may see” (Rev 3:17-18).

We desperately need to see ourselves, our world, our attitudes, our treatment of others, our goals and dreams — everything — with new eyes, “the eyes of [our] understanding being enlightened” (Eph 1:18) by Him today.
