February 29 Petition Mission

“For by Thee I have run through a troop: by my God have I leaped over a wall” (2 Sam 22:30, KJV).

Yes, it’s Leap Year, and what a good time, with God’s help, to leap over obstacles in our way. It must have been some troop of soldiers David ran through that day, and some wall he sprang over! Perhaps he was thinking about capturing Zion. It was so well fortified that the Jebusites boasted, “‘You shall not come in here; but the blind and the lame will repel you,’ thinking, ‘David cannot come in here'” (2 Sam 5:6).

How tough was Jebus (renamed Jerusalem) to defeat? Here’s what we read about Benjamin, the warrior tribe—who on more than one occasion defeated the other eleven tribes by themselves! “But the children of Benjamin did not drive out the Jebusites who inhabited Jerusalem” (Jdg 1:21). What is the verse following the Jebusites’ boast? “Nevertheless David took the stronghold of Zion.” Walls of fear or unbelief or past defeat before you? By your God, make this a happy Leap Year!
