Samuel Medley wrote, “Join, all who love the Savior’s name, To sing His everlasting fame.”
We didn’t mention a key phrase back in Exodus 26 where it first appears, but the Lord gives us a second opportunity since He repeats it ten chapters on. The original is a command: “Make fifty clasps of gold, and couple the curtains together with the clasps, so that it may be one tabernacle” (Ex 26:6). In chapter 36, it is stated as a completed fact. J.H. Sammis wrote, “Trust and obey, for there’s no other way To be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey.” How true! The more one-to-one correspondence between what God says and what we do, the happier we are in the Lord. And just as the golden clasps were provided to make it one tabernacle instead of disconnected curtains, so the Lord links all His people together. “That they all may be one, as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You; that they also may be one in Us, that the world may believe that You sent Me” (Jn 17:21). Let’s not pull apart from one another, using man-made names rather than the beautiful ones He gave us. Would you like 50 golden clasps? We are ambassadors, babes in Christ, believers, beloved, one body, branches in the vine, brethren, the bride, the called of God, dear children, the church of the Firstborn, citizens of heaven, Christians, debtors to grace, disciples, the elect, examples, followers, friends, the fullness of Him, heirs, a holy nation, God’s household, His husbandry, His own, imitators of God, kings, fellow laborers, lights, living stones, living sacrifices, members, ministers, new creations, partakers of the promise, people of God, pilgrims, pillars, holy and royal priests, the redeemed, saints, servants, sheep, soldiers, sons and daughters, stewards, strangers in this world, God’s temple, vessels of mercy, and worshipers—yes, and one in Him!
