December 21, 2021 — Spiritual Furniture Movers

The world is constantly ignoring Jesus or else actively putting Him down. Let’s lift Him up!

The second piece of furniture described is a table, also made of acacia wood and covered in pure gold. It was 3’ long, 18” wide, and 27” high, the same height as the ark. God continues, “You shall make for it a frame of a handbreadth all around, and you shall make a gold molding for the frame all around” (Ex 25:25). We will examine this interesting little table in the next lesson, but first notice something that all the furniture had in common. Each piece had to be transported from place to place, so the Lord instructed, “You shall make for it four rings of gold, and put the rings on the four corners that are at its four legs.…And you shall make the poles of acacia wood, and overlay them with gold, that the table may be carried with them” (vv 26-28). Here was a simple but ingenious way to carry furniture without it being damaged. But there is a spiritual lesson here. These objects would all speak of Christ in various ways. God would not have these pictures of His beloved Son (whether Israel understood it or not) dragged through the desert by some dumb animals. It is priestly work to lift up Christ! Later, we will see David making a serious—and fatal—mistake in this regard (2 Sam 6:3-8). But think just for a moment about our privilege today in lifting up Christ. He Himself said, “And I, if I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all peoples to Myself” (Jn 12:32). Men lifted Him up on a cross, as He prophesied: “When you lift up the Son of Man, then you will know that I AM” (Jn 8:28). But God lifted Him up, too! “God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow” (Php 2:9-10). Let’s lift up the Lord Jesus and watch as people are drawn to Him!
