August 19 Petition Mission

“When Hezekiah and the leaders came and saw the heaps, they blessed the Lord and His people Israel” (2 Chron 31:8).

Under good king Hezekiah, temple worship had been restored. Now the people needed to give generously to provide for the Lord’s work. When the king visited the place where they were gathering the supplies, he found there was so much in excess of the need that they had to also build storerooms to hold “the heaps” of “this great abundance” (v 10).

It’s good to bless the Lord, but it’s also right to bless His people, too! I remember my dad telling of a man he met on a trip to Zambia. His face shone with heaven’s radiance. Kambungu lived where the Chokwe, Lunda, and Luvale peoples lived. He wanted to spread the gospel up the mighty Zambezi River, but couldn’t read. So with a satchel having three compartments, filled with tracts in the three languages, he spread the gospel seed for many years by canoe. God bless all the Kambungus and their heaps!
