CHRIST’S NAME ABOVE EVERY NAME (Php 2:9). Early Christians often referred to “the Name” as though the word stood for the Lord Jesus Himself, as if there was no other name that mattered. We read how they preached concerning the Name, though forbidden to speak to anyone in this Name. Yet speak they must, “for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved” (Acts 4:12). Many believed in His Name, had life in His Name, and were baptized in His Name. They gathered together for worship in His Name and therefore with His Presence among them. When they offered a prayer, or gave a cup of cold water, or received a child, it was in the Lord’s Name. Whatever they did, in word or deed, they did all in the Name of the Lord Jesus. To name that Name was to depart from iniquity. To the worshippers of Jesus, His Name is above all others, for His life is above every life and His love above every love. —T.H. Darlow
