The SON and the BREATH of GOD: Even the breath of the Lord has power in it! We know the Son was the Creator of everything (Jn 1:3). How did He do it? “By the word of the Lord the heavens were made, and all the host of them by the breath of His mouth” (Ps 33:6). This includes humanity, the crown of creation: “And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living being” (Gen 2:7). Christ is also the Word incarnate, and “All Scripture is given by inspiration of God [theopneustos, God-breathed]…” (2 Tim 3:16). As He sent His people to continue His work, “He breathed on them, and said to them, ‘Receive the Holy Spirit’” (Jn 20:22). And, at the climax of history, in the last great battle, “the lawless one will be revealed, whom the Lord will consume with the breath of His mouth” (2 Thess 2:8). No wonder the Psalmist exclaims: “Let everything that has breath praise the Lord. Praise the Lord!” (150:6).
