CHRIST the TRUE: “They said to Him, ‘Teacher, we know that You are true’” (Mk 12:14). The word “true” here means literally “not hidden.” Of course He had nothing to hide: “That was the true Light which gives light to every man coming into the world” (Jn 1:9). He not only had nothing to hide Himself, but manifested to others their own hearts. Having revealed their need, He was ready to meet it—not in a superficial way, but richly and completely. So it was that “Jesus said to them,…‘My Father gives you the true bread from heaven’” (Jn 6:32). It was not that the manna was false bread; but Christ was the Manna in its fullest sense, only illustrated by the bread in the wilderness. That was life-sustaining bread, but He was life-giving Bread! And what of those who responded in faith to Him? To them He then became “the true Vine” (Jn 15:1) and out of His life our lives are forever nourished. Count on it: “These things says the Amen, the Faithful and True Witness” (Rev 3:14).
