CHRIST the MAN of PRAYER: “Now it came to pass, as He was praying in a certain place, when He ceased, that one of His disciples said to Him, ‘Lord, teach us to pray’” (Lk 11:1). The Lord Jesus was the only Man who could have, by Himself, made the right decision every time. But He always checked with His Father about everything. If this was His daily pattern, what of us? Andrew Murray writes: “There is nothing that can so closely link us to Jesus Christ, the great Intercessor…There is nothing in which we shall know more of the powerful working of the Holy Spirit than the prayer breathed by Him into our hearts, ‘Abba, Father,’ in all the fullness of meaning that it had for Christ in Gethsemane.…O my brother, how little we realize what we are losing in not living in fervent intercession. ‘You do not have because you do not ask’ (Jas 4:2). In heaven, Christ lives to pray.…Shall we not learn to believe that the highest blessings of heaven will be unfolded to us as we pray more?”
