CHRIST OUR COVERING: “As many of you as were [immersed] into Christ have put on [enduo, been clothed with] Christ” (Gal 3:27). Christ covers the well-dressed saint with glory (His revealed character) to illuminate the darkness: “Therefore let us cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armor of light” (Rom 13:12). Christ is our purity in a dirty world, so “Put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh” (Rom 13:14), not in our own strength, for He sent His Spirit so we might be “endued (enduo, to be clothed) with power from on high” (Lk 24:49). In fact, “Put on the whole armor of God,” to stand against the devil’s wiles (Eph 6:11; see 1 Thes 5:8). Having put off the old and put on the new (Eph 4:22-24) which is “renewed in knowledge” (Col 3:10), we should “put on tender mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, longsuffering, bearing with one another, and forgiving one another…But above all these things put on love, which is the bond of perfection” (vv 12-14).
