CHRIST the FINISHER: “I have finished the work which You have given Me to do” (Jn 17:4). Christ’s saving work for you is complete; His work in you is ongoing. Believer, you are “the elect of God” (Col 3:12); but you are “to make your call and election sure” (2 Pet 1:10). True, “you have been saved” (Eph 2:8); yet you are called to “work out your own salvation” (Php 2:12), what He has worked in you. By faith we receive “the gift of God [which] is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Rom 6:23); however, we are also to “lay hold on eternal life” (1 Tim 6:12) as a daily experience. We are to “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature” (Mk 16:15) but, thank God, we are no longer “of the world” (Jn 17:14). And while it is true, “we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all” (Heb 10:10), yet four verses later he calls believers “those who are being sanctified” (v 14). “He who has begun a good work in you will complete it…” (Php 1:6).
