“You have wearied the Lord with your words; yet you say, ‘In what way have we wearied Him?’ In that you say, ‘Everyone who does evil is good in the sight of the Lord, and He delights in them,’ Or, ‘Where is the God of justice?’” (Mal 2:17).
Isaiah 40:28 states that “the Creator of the ends of the earth” isn’t wearied from running the whole universe! But one thing does weary Him: hearing those little creatures on planet Earth who think they know better than He. Cynical sinners who think God is unfair, His Word is not true, and that there is no justice in the world. “Just you wait!” says the Lord. Because the next verse announces that “the Messenger of the covenant” is on the way, who will come “like a refiner’s fire” to purify everything once and for all (Mal 3:1-2).
Let’s not be poisoned with the jaundiced world around us. Peter calls us to remember that the long wait is because the Lord wants people to be saved before He comes to set things right (2 Pet 3:15). It’s never wise to second-guess God.
