July 1 Petition Mission

“O Lord God of hosts, who is mighty like You, O Lord? Your faithfulness also surrounds You. You rule the raging of the sea; when its waves rise, You still them” (Ps 89:8-9).

Here’s an idea that can change our whole perspective on life. The same God rules the raging of, and speaks His stillness to, the waves. His will can be accomplished as easily in the storms as in the calms.

For over a year, evangelist Donald Ross preached the gospel in the little fishing village of Footdee, Scotland—to audiences of three or four. So he began to pray that the Lord would send a storm to keep the fishing boats in the harbor. In 1861, a fierce storm did just that. In this community of rough-living, biblically illiterate fisherfolk, the gospel came in power. Thus began waves of blessing that continued for years, including the salvation of my great-grandparents. In 1869 alone, it is estimated that about 600 souls in that village put their trust in Christ. The raging hemmed them in till the stillness swept their souls.
