“With my soul I have desired You in the night, yes, by my spirit within me I will seek You early; for when Your judgments are in the earth, the inhabitants of the world will learn righteousness” (Isa 26:9).
Do you see how strategic Isaiah’s thinking is? Lying in the darkness, he contemplates world-sized thoughts. As the morning light breaks across the Judean hills, he instinctively turns to the Lord for aid. What does he desire? Nothing less than a planet-wide turning to the Lord. He longs for an invasion of the Word of God into every human heart, recalibrating human thinking to align with the right thinking of God. Only then will peace reign on earth.
This is not an unrealistic hope. It will really be accomplished. But, at present, we, His soldiers behind enemy lines, know that our words sent heavenward in prayer can be responded to by His words reaching into human hearts today.
Will we seek Him early? Corrie ten Boom asks, “Is prayer your steering wheel or your spare tire?”
