CHRIST the LAMB of GOD: “Behold the Lamb…” (Jn 1:29). Sidlow Baxter points out the ten great Lamb passages: in Genesis 4, we see Abel and the necessity of the Lamb; in Genesis 22, it is Abraham and the provision of the Lamb; in Exodus 12, the Passover emphasizes the slaying of the Lamb; in Leviticus 16, it is the character of the Lamb—“without blemish and without spot”; in Isaiah 53, the emphasis is on expiation and the submissiveness and suffering of the Lamb; in John 1, we have the identifying of the Lamb; while in Acts 8, Phillip explains to the Ethiopian that the promised Christ (Messiah) is none other than the crucified Lamb, Jesus of Nazareth. In 1 Peter 1, we have the resurrection of the Lamb; and in Revelation 5, the watching hosts see the enthronement and triumph of “a Lamb as though it had been slain.” Finally, in Revelation 21 and 22, John the Seer presents to us the endless kingship and eternal glory of the Lamb. “Worthy, worthy is the Lamb!”
