“Your hands have made me and fashioned me; give me understanding, that I may learn Your commandments” (Ps 119:73).
Here we are reminded of the Purposer and His purpose. In forming us, the Lord made us each distinct from all other creatures. God said to Jeremiah, “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you; before you were born I sanctified you” (Jer 1:5). God’s general plan determined a specific purpose just for you. We were “sanctified,” or set apart, from all others for a specific role.
How often the Lord uses one person, even one act, to change the course of history: Hannah’s request for a son, Daniel’s prayer for deliverance, Nehemiah’s night ride, Jael’s tent peg, or Jochebed’s preparing of a bulrush basket before she put her baby in the river. To these could be added the names of myriads who prayed for intervention, acted boldly in a crisis, or lived for Jesus in a quiet unassuming way.
Lord, help us to see Your purpose in our lives and to be ready to do Your will today.
