CHRIST THE UNIFIER: “We, being many, are one body in Christ, and individually members of one another” (Rom 12:5). The heart of the Lord Jesus for us, expressed in His prayer in John 17, is for the same unity enjoyed among the divine Persons. Thus we are encouraged to be “kind” and “tender-hearted toward one another” (Eph 4:32), to “serve one another” and “be forbearing toward one another” in love (Gal 5:13; Eph 4:2), and to consistently “forgive one another” (Col 3:13). We should also learn how to “exhort (or encourage) one another daily” (Heb 3:13), to “confess [our] faults” to one another (Jas 5:16), and to “bear one another’s burdens” (Gal 6:2), so fulfilling the law of Christ. What will help us in doing this? If we “prefer one another” in honor (Rom 12:10), “esteeming others better” than ourselves (Php 2:3), “consider (seriously think about) one another” (Heb 10:24), and “pray for one another” (Jas 5:16). Using our gifts, we can “minister to one another” (1 Pet 4:10), and so “edify,” “admonish,” and “comfort one another” (Rom 14:19; 15:14; 1 Thess 5:11).
